Under the Patronage of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, HE Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali opened the 29th Doha International Book Fair, which sees the participation of 427 publishers from 30 Arab and foreign countries at the Doha Convention and Exhibition Center.
The opening ceremony was attended by HE Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Dr. Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari, HE Minister Justice, Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi, HE Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs Yousef bin Mohamed Al Othman Fakhroo, HE Speaker of the Shura Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud and HE Director of he Government Communication Office Sheikh Saif bin Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani in addition to senior officials ad heads of Diplomatic Missions accredited to the State of Qatar.
Organized by Qatar Cultural and Heritage Events Center the 29th edition of the book fair is organized under the theme “Doha, a City of Knowledge and Conscience”, which is driven from the Ministry’s Vision “Towards a Conscious Society with Sound Conscience and Healthy Body”.
The Russian Federation is a guest of honor in the exhibition this year as in culmination of the cultural year of Qatar-Russia 2018.
After the opening ceremony, HE the Minister, accompanied by guests of the exhibition, toured the exhibition, which covers 29 thousand square meters. During the tour, he was briefed on the most recent publications and the most prominent Qatari, Arab and foreign participations. His Excellency visited the pavilions of Russia, France, the Sultanate of Oman and Kuwaiti National Council for Culture, Science and Literature. His excellency also visited the pavilions of Palestine, Morocco, Algeria, Iran and Turkey in addition to those of a number of Qatari entities partaking in the Book Fair including the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Endowments, Qatar Museums, Qatar National Library, Qatari Authors Forum, Rosa Publishing House and Qatar Poetry Center. In addition, the main platform of the exhibition, which is the venue for major intellectual seminars, was opened .
